Children don’t seem to like vegetables, nor fruit either, but especially things like spinach and beans. On the other hand they will eat absolute junk until the cows come home. The good news is that this is a problem that has always existed, and we as youngsters were no different.
As a parent we can get quite angry with our children because we know fresh vegetables are a very important source of minerals and vitamins. We also know they don’t make you fat. The big question remains, and that is what is it that children have against green vegetables?
Children seem to have a list of vegetables they won’t touch. Mostly they sem to be green, from cabbage to peas, beans, and spinach. I wonder if it is the colour as opposed to the taste, although in fairness they don’t seem too keen on carrots either.
Kids don’t need to eat lots of fruit and vegetables but they should have some every day, and of course so should we as adults. Perhaps it’s worth asking the question of ourselves, which is do we eat the whole range of vegetables ourselves or refuse some, in which case our children probably copy us.
Sometimes I wonder if it is the jars of processed baby food that are to blame. They are frequently a greenish colour, and I don’t know whether or not you have tasted them, but they are not great. If the baby becomes a child who associates green vegetables with the colour and the taste, then no wonder they are put off.
There is of course a solution. Make a promise you’ll never give your kids processed jars of food. Buy a blender or a food processor, and make the stuff fresh. better still disguise the colour by adding the vegetable to something else that will make it look better, and taste it before they do. fresh food freshly made is so much better for your baby and just think, no additives, no chemicals, and instead all the vitamins and minerals.
As a last point, a child who eats healthily and isn’t fussy will almost have been set this example by their parents. So just make sure they see you eating with gusto, obviously enjoying your food, and where possible eating what they eat. It’s not rocket science, and it works.
Make it yourself, invest in a blender and grinder, or a complete food processor. dex baby food processors So long as they eat some vegetables every day that is all that counts. Disguise the green colour with other foods, and give your baby a healthy start to their life.
